The style was feminine, striking with the fashion forward line which consitstd of 35 dresses. The Setai was the perfect setting in its Asian themed center pavilion to launch the line. In attendance were celebrities, dignitaries from Morocco, and fashion critics.

Following the show,  the designer shared “I am originally from  Morocco, and was raised in Marseilles, France. I have been influenced by many different cultures and personal experiences as you  see in my collection”.  “My fashion sense brings my French and Moroccan roots together as well as my experiences in traveling to Dubai, China, and India. Whether the designs are from my Arabic collection or the prêt-à-porter, cocktail, or wedding dresses you will see original and traditional work from an unique perspective” she added.

The show began with the Saharoui dress which is the traditional dress of the designer’s people who are from the Sahara desert.  From there the colors came alive with a gold embroidered emerald green velvet dress. The next dresses were bold in fushia and bright yellow color, detailed with  Indian-inspired patterns hand-stitched with Moroccan rhinestone and ruby accents.

The Arab and Moroccan dresses transitioned into the prete-a-porter with a pastel pink hand stitched short dress with a bow accented fluffed tulle.  As the audience whooed and press snapped away, the model removed the tulle which converted into acompletely different style.  There were also two skirts of hand placed crystals that drew reactions from the audience.

The cocktail dresses were followed where the Panther dress stood apart. It was a simple black dress but dazzled, sparkled, and shimmered down the runway as it was covered by net of Swarovski Crystals.  Following was the Jaguar with an exotic animal print in glistening lycra material that molded to the body with one shoulder and side exposed from the uber sexy cut.

I have very strong relationships China, Dubai, and of course Morocco and these resources were very helpful in putting together this collection. For my debut, I am sharing who I am as a woman and  designer. I have a strong  passion for Morocco, France, and all the cultures that I have been privilege to interact with. My fall line will be a reflection of that and my joie de vivre . “

Sahraoui began her designs in Marseilles by planning the collection then went to Dubai, and China for a month to meet with her team of seamstresses,  artists, and production team to develop the line. The final leg of the this experience ended where it all began for Sahraoui, in Morocco. The sir name Sahraoui is Arabic for Sahara and Nora’s family is known throughout Morocco.  She was in Marrakech and Agadir  to spend time with family, attend a wedding, and to revitalize her roots with her many relatives. She then  went to Bouchane, a small desert village near Agadir,  which is the homeland of her mother. She wore the tradition clothes that women in her family have worn for generations.  This is the foundation of whom she is and the well from which she has created XELA Fashion.

Xela Fashion Travels to Dubai and China

Designer Prepares for Summer 2012 collection

Nora Sahraoui, XELA Fashion Designer, prepares for her Summer 2012 Collection with a cross continental trip to Dubai and to China. The purpose of the trip is to obtain her new and exotic fabrics for the collection as well as to direct the factory for the production of the line.

Sahraoui who returned to Marseille after two months in Miami, has been working around the clock to bring together her new collection which she will debut in Miami during fashion week this fall. “On my return to France, I had the opportunity to spend time in Paris and was inspired with the vivid and bright colors. The styles were also very edgy and trendy as well. My new collections is a combination of those and many influences including my time in Miami and from my Moroccan heritage.

Purchasing Fabrics in Dubai

Her new collection will be comprised of 30 exciting fashion forward dresses. The dresses will be couture, cocktail, pret e porter, and Arabic. Sahraoui is currently in Dubai to design the Arabic dresses and a selection of the cocktail dresses. She shares “ I am starting the XELA Collection in Dubai where I have traveled and worked over 10 years. Here I know the fashion industry and people very well, having worked with some of the top suppliers have been good to work and have also become dear friends.” One of her long time suppliers and friends is AL Humaidi. Today she purchased a beautiful fabric and crystals.

The center of Dubai resembles the capital of India and has strong influences from that region of the world. Here I am buying the fabric that I will use in the collection including elegant and noble fabrics, lace, organza, velvet, and fine silk. In Dubai spontaneity is a big part of my design process and I allow the rich culture or the city that is full of surprises to inspire my design. The fabrics are incredible with some being ornate with crystal or others hand made with intricate designs. Everything inspires me here and from the instant I touch the fabric I already know what I’ll do” commented Sahraoui.
